Textile and Harness Braiding Machines

Description

HARNESS BRAIDING MACHINES

Harness braiding machines utilize a vertical configuration to create protective jacketing for electrical wires used on aerospace, automotive and other industries. Harness braiding is important for electrical harnesses as it provides a protective layer from chafing, heat and other wear and tear to electrical harnesses. Braid can be textile, metal or any other material that can be threaded onto a spindle type braiding machine.  We offer manual and semi-automated designs to meet the needs of your manufacturing process.

Wiring harnesses have many different names including: electrical wiring harnesses, looms, cable assemblies, coax cables, RF cables, injection molded cable assemblies, fiber optic cables, and many times are simply called harnesses. SteegerUSA is an expert in reinforced harness braiding applications ranging in size from small diameter surgical catheter tubing to reinforced mechanical or fluid transmission hoses. Whether your requirements are for insulation, abrasion resistance, burst strength, or aesthetics, SteegerUSA harness braiding machines can handle a full range of braiding fibers or metallics.

Braided wire harnesses provide many advantages including extended service life, resistance to environmental influences, dimensionally accurate production and reduced cost of assembly. Wire harnesses are important because they allow manufacturers to install a wire bundle as a single unit instead of one wire at a time. It is much easier and faster to route a group of wires already bundled together than routing them individually.

Steeger harness braiding machines are efficient, productive and relatively quiet. They are fast at braiding even the most challenging materials as our proprietary carriers feature technology to reduce stain on the wire. Each carrier features individual tension control with sensors to identify wire breaks or an empty bobbin. The clean operating system reduces downtime compared to similar products. The touch screen control panel allows engineers to customize the operation for the most challenging applications. Allen Bradley controls adjust the braid pitch, speed and preset length. The user controls the variable speed drive during operation using a foot pedal.

Harness braiding machines can be customized for the carrier count required for each application – 16, 24, 32, 36, 40, 48 and 64 are available as standard. Guarding is available on all models, as are motorised take up spools with clutches to automate the process.
